| I
am a undergraduate student working on a Bachelor of Science degree
in Environmental Science. I joined the lab group at the beginning
of summer, 1996. I carried out some of the work examining cultures
and cleaning up spores to set up new single species cultures, but
my major responsibility was to update the bibliography database on
mycorrhizal fungi. This job involved going through all of the reprints,
putting them in order, and cross-referencing them to records in the
software database program we are using, Reference Manager. As you
can see from the photo, this task occasionally wasfrustrating and
led to feelings of anxiety. Nonetheless, the job was completed (at
least in the short term) and for that I have a tremendous feeling
of satisfaction. I have come to realize the record-keeping chores
of INVAM are crucial to its continued success, and I am contributing
with that effort. I also am learning about computers (and to not set
my expectations too high about what they can do). |
